That make me realise I am nearly 30…
Had a great weekend.. I’ll try to remember it in some sort of chronological order..
Saturday morning we had a relaxing start to the day and went shopping around lunch time to get a few bits in ready for an old university friend to come round and go out for the night.
We are well and truly into the official ‘parents that go out’ phase now.. this is the second time we have had Bam round to babysit and it was really great.
Sara came round with her boyfriend of 2 years, Aaron and spent a couple of hours here playing with the girls before we went out for dinner. A new restaurant here, only been open for a couple of months, if that maybe.. a little Italian promising an up-market evening out for reasonable prices.
I think they certainly achieved that.. the food was amazing.. I had chilli, garlic and lemon prawns to start, warmed and I have to say that they were perhaps some of the nicest prawns I’ve ever had in a dressing that was gorgeous! I had olives to start which I thought I HATED.. but no.. they were gorgeous.. really enjoyed them.. For main course I had ricotta, something or other and more cheese ravioli in a lovely cheesy yummy sauce.
No.. I’m really intolerant to cheese so it was a risky choice cos I knew I would be ill later but I do so love cheese.. and I hardly ever have it. It’s not part of my daily diet at all and so I indulged in this ravioli and I have to say it was absolutely worth it!!
The only slight problem was by this point.. we were sharing two bottles of wine and I had already had a glass and a bottle of lager in the bar before the meal and we were all feeling the effects of drinking a lot more than we ever normally do…. can you see where this is leading?
I ate very rich food.. a food that I’m basically allergic to and drank rather a lot of wine.. when I don’t normally even drink.. are you guessing the end of this story..?yeah.. afraid so..
Got home and Bam left.. the girls had slept all evening, no probs so we got back and BN decided that he would open the wine we had here. It is here that I need to point out that the wine we had here amounted to over 2 and a half litres….
The evening was winding down nicely.. about half midnight, Sara looked like she was going to pass out and she and I went about getting bedding ready and brushing teeth, changing etc and came downstairs to find BN and Aaron engaged in a … a… ‘assertive discussion’ about the kind of thing you only discuss when you’ve had too much wine to drink…
So.. here goes…
Aaron said that a person’s mind is in complete and utter control of the rest of your body, even physiological responses e.g. reflexes. And that no person’s body can illicit a physiological response to a stimulus unless it is first sanctioned by the conscious mind.
Utter poppycock. Sorry but what crap.
Then later in the discussion, Aaron said that mind over matter would be such that when giving a presentation, for example, you could be as scared as you could possibly be, nervous even if you know exactly what you’re talking about.. but able to control yourself and give the presentation without showing that you’re scared.. He gave this example and then said that when giving presentations the only tell tale sign would be that when he reached for a glass of water, his hand would tremble..
So … in the moment.. this seemed to be a very important point to discuss.. I asked him to explain that if his conscious state can control the body then why would you tremble when nervous if you didn’t want to appear nervous? Surely, complete control means there would be no signs of nervousness….?
Anybody care to venture an opinion? He never answered that question…
Anyway.. we decided that this question was important enough to discuss until 4.44am this morning. This was when we kind of realised that we could hear birdies singing and that we had two children upstairs who were going to wake up at 7am…
Oh yeah.. Shite.
So we piled into bed and this was where my body decided that it really didn’t want to process the amount of red wine in it and I spent the next hour dozing off in my bathroom waiting to be sick…
I think I inadvertently behaved as I did 10 years ago and this morning .. and for the rest of the day for that matter … have felt completely and utterly shit, drank loads of water, eaten eggs and bacon, slept more than the average hibernating grizzly and I still feel like the business end of a badger.
But … hey.. a good night was had by all and the girls have been amazingly good all day.. that sense they have.. they both clearly know we’re not up to much.
So.. we’re about to try and makea roast dinner at 9pm.. can you tell we’re hungover?
Note to self… 8 weeks to 30th birthday.. go to bed at 10pm from now on.
ps. found another grey pube yesterday… how outrageous is that?!?!
